Hudl - Easy, Affordable, Powerful Coaching Software

Hustle, hit, and never quit. Maybe it’s because they work with so many NFL and NBA teams, but the Hudl squad seems to take on every project and dominate like there’s two minutes to go in the fourth and the season’s on the line.

Hudl first took the field in 2006 when they noticed inefficiencies in how sports teams handle video. Some Division 1 football teams were still distributing game film to players and coaches on DVD (what is this, 1996?) and playbooks in phonebook sized paper format (no comment). The Hudl team got to work creating software that could securely deliver video and other information over the internet.

They succeeded, to say the least.

Now over 70 NFL, NBA, NHL, and NCAA Division 1 teams use Hudl:

The New York Jets were the first NFL team to use Hudl, and they were immediately impressed with the results, including legendary quarterback Brett Favre.

If it’s good enough for the NFL’s all-time passing and touchdowns leader, than it’s good enough for us, too.

High School Hudl

But Hudl does more than just run with the big shots in the pros: Hudl software has allowed college and high school programs that had limited or no access to video at all to compete at a new level.

Today, nearly 10,000 high schools use Hudl, and the Hudl roster itself has grown from 10 employees in 2008 to more 60 in 2012.

We talked to Hudl about their great success and about their experience as a FonAngle customer.

How did Hudl get its start?

BRYANT BONE, COACH SUPPORT MANAGER: We got started in 2006. Our CEO David Graff was working for the University of Nebraska football team and saw firsthand many of the inefficiencies a Division 1 team experienced as they looked to distribute their game film to players and coaches on DVD.

What are some of the challenges you face?

BONE: Our biggest challenge is staying the same in the face of explosive growth. We work really hard to make sure the Hudl experience is better for employee #65 than it was for #12. The same for our teams – we want our new coaches to have an even better experience than the ones that came before them.

What keeps your customers coming back for more?

BONE: Hudl helps make the work coaches are doing easier, simpler and more effective. Coaches can actually focus on game planning and coaching - not video editing. The fact that we’re always developing and improving the product. Two years ago, you could only use Hudl on your PC or Mac. Now, you can use it on your iPad, iPhone, Android device.
